General description is what the information at chicagocmmcalibration.com provides. It helps a requester understand what can be arranged and what a request should contain, and it stops there: it is not a technical specification, an engineering opinion, or a certificate of any kind.

Every measurement result carries an uncertainty. The result is meaningful only when it is read together with three things:

• the measurement uncertainty stated on the certificate
• the conditions under which the measurement was made
• the method used

Statements of conformity are a pass or fail against a tolerance. Where one is issued, it rests on a decision rule agreed before the work is performed. Nothing on this website states or implies a decision rule, an uncertainty figure, or a conformity outcome for any item.

One document reports results: the certificate or report issued by the laboratory that performed the work, in the form in which it is issued. Pages of this website do not report results, and neither do emails or verbal statements made while arranging work — none of them is a certificate of calibration, a report of results, or an amendment to either. Certificates are valid as complete documents and should be read that way.

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the standard the work described here is performed under. Where accreditation is referenced, the accreditation is that held by the laboratory performing the work, and it extends only to the measurements listed in that laboratory's published scope. Work falling outside a published scope is performed and reported as non-accredited work, identified as such on the certificate.

Engineering, metrological, legal and regulatory advice are all outside what this site provides, and nothing here must be relied on to decide whether an instrument is fit for a particular use. Links to external sites are a convenience; their content is not controlled or endorsed.
