Verification against a stated specification
Calibration establishes a measured relationship to reference values with a stated uncertainty. What most shops need day to day is performance verification - confirming the machine still meets its specification under ISO 10360-2 or ASME B89.4.1.
Testing typically pairs verification with geometric adjustment and, where the controller supports it, an update to the volumetric error compensation map.
What a visit covers
Testing follows a fixed sequence on every visit, whether performed on-site or at a partner laboratory.

Scale and reader head
X, Y and Z scales are inspected and cleaned; reader head output is checked and adjusted.

Geometry
Straightness, linearity and squareness are checked in the XY, ZX and ZY planes.
- 03
Length measurement error
Five test lengths, three repeats, seven positions - 105 measurements against ISO 10360-2.
- 04
Probing error
Tested on a calibrated reference sphere separate from the probe qualification sphere, per ISO 10360-5.
Sequence of work

Inspect
Scales, reader heads, air bearings and airlines are checked before testing begins.

As-found test
Length measurement error and probing error are recorded against the machine's stated MPE.
- 03
Adjust
Geometric adjustment and error-map update are applied where the controller allows it.

As-left and certify
Verification is repeated and a certificate is issued with before-and-after results.
